Question 1
Tell us a little bit about you.
Where are you from?
Hi! I’m Sierra Brooks, CEO of Bud to Bud to Blossom 💕 Bud to Blossom is a postpartum doula agency caring for parents with new babies during the day and specializing in overnight support. We also offer our exclusive Foodie Doula weekly meal delivery service (tailored to your family’s preferences, needs and your recovery - for pregnancy, birth & beyond) and specialize in helping families with littles get the best sleep (overnight postpartum doula support is magic for best sleep
I am a CAPPA certified postpartum doula, have also been a Gentle Sleep Coach for the last 8 years, currently leveling up and working on becoming a Certified Sleep Counselor.
When I launched Bud to Blossom in 2014 I was a solo doula & educator. By 2016 the clients and jobs grew too big for one person so I called on my favorite postpartum doulas in the community and asked them to join me. And poof, we became a team/ agency. I was born in Provo, UT in 1975. I was a surprise twin. My parents were told they were having one 8lb baby boy. My mom went into labor and out came my 4lb 15oz. sister Saasha with the cord wrapped around her neck twice. 5 min later the doctor says, “Here comes another one! It’s a litter!” At which time my dad passes out & my mom starts “swearing like a sailor”! Then I emerge butt first, 3lbs 15oz. Fraternal twin girls 🩷🩷 We stayed in UT for the first 3 years then headed to the Pacific Northwest where I grew up in a little town outside of Seattle called Kirkland, WA. I have lots of family in Utah, so I would come back quite a bit over the years. I moved around a lot in Middle & High school. I graduated from the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA.

Question 2
Why do you do what you do?
What motivates you?
Oooh! I love this question. I do this work because I absolutely love guiding new parents as they step into their confidence. I love reminding parents of their inner wisdoms and the strength of following their mommy/daddy intuition. I love the feeling at the end of either a day or overnight postpartum doula shift when the parents feel grounded, cared for and settled. My favorite thing about being a postpartum doula and Sleep Counselor is witnessing the love & joy a new baby brings. As well as supporting parents through the challenges, seeing them on the other side, strong, rested and confident!

Question 3
Where did your passion come from?
I am not 100% sure how exactly, but I know my personal coming earthside (birth) story plays into my passion for being a postpartum doula.
During a summer school class in college I took called The Biology of Human Sexuality, we got to learn about all kinds of different professions related to reproduction & sexuality. A midwife came to talk with us and showed us a birth. That’s when I knew being involved in birth work was my calling.
I focused first on birth doula work occasionally flowing into postpartum work with some of my birth clients, then childbirth education (trained in Lamaze & HypnoBirthing, taught in hospitals and privately on my own), followed by breastfeeding support (I became a CLC - Certified Lactation Counselor) and then had my own babies.
Going to births as a mom with littles was not a good fit for me & childbirth education was fantastic but I saw a huge gap from once babies were born to sending them home where we seemed to lack some very important support. That’s what lead me to focusing on support parents after their babies arrived. I wanted to be the one by the parents side, cheerleading and guiding them through that tender time.
And now, I have dialed in my focus even more to include Sleep Counseling. I am most excited to show parents how to maximize their sleep by supporting their baby’s sleep.

Question 4
What did you build in Soul Seed Academy?
Since I had already launched my business long before I joined Soul Seed Academy, so my biggest takeaway was the “how to” level up my business and the amazing support of the Soul Seed Team.
I reinforced all of my systems and structures more so than building something new. But the thing I’ve been working on building is my social media plan. It’s a beautiful work in progress.

Question 6
What has been the hardest part of your journey so far?
The hardest part for me so far has been navigating the ebb & flow of owning my own business & the temporary nature of postpartum doula work. Creating consistency in that flow is hard but I’m figuring it out 🙂

Question 7
What does healing the world look like to you?
Healing the world looks like supporting parents and littles through the first days, weeks months & year of life with a new baby, filling parents with the resources, information and support they need so that they can step into their confidence and be at their best for their children. When parents are at their best feeling strong & confident in their parenting, it leads to well adjusted, strong and confident babies which = making the world a better place.

Question 8
Any last-minute thoughts?
I am really, really excited to announce that I am creating an Advanced Training for Overnight Postpartum Doulas!!
It will be online, in-person and digital!
After many many years of working as a postpartum doula I am so excited to offer a way to bring excellence and consistency in the quality of care to Overnight Postpartum Doulas. In many PPdoula trainings the focus is daytime support. I can’t wait to help postpartum doulas learn all the ins and outs of overnight support (which is dramatically different from daytime).
Please feel free to call, text or email me if you are interested in this training, if you would like to be on my email list or if you just want to learn more.
Coming September 2024!
