Question 1
Tell us a little bit about you.
Where are you from?
I’m a blend of Mountain West and Midwest roots, born in Montana and raised in Nebraska, where I graduated high school. As the eldest of an all-girl family, I’ve always embraced leadership. After earning a Communications degree from BYU-Idaho, I served a mission in Ecuador (2005–2007) and volunteered in Chile at a church Employment Resource Center, teaching adults job-seeking skills and resume writing. My time in South America, including travels to Chile’s coast and Mendoza, Argentina, deepened my love for the region.
I met my husband at BYU-Idaho, and we’ve been married for 15 years. Together, we’re raising four energetic and amazing children, ages 14 to 3.

Question 2
Why do you do what you do?
What motivates you?
Photography has been a lifelong passion. Capturing our adventures on a childhood trip to Holland sparked an early interest, though my initial photos were far from masterpieces. In high school, I refined my skills as the photo editor and later editor-in-chief of the yearbook. At BYU-Idaho, I shifted focus to writing, earning a scholarship as a staff writer for the Scroll. After graduating, my interest in photography reignited with the births of my children, each experience shaping my perspective and creativity.

Question 3
Where did your passion come from?
With the birth of my second child, I upgraded to a DSLR and honed my skills, especially photographing dynamic, uncooperative subjects, AKA my toddler and baby. Friends graciously let me practice on them, and through trial and error, I developed my craft. A pivotal moment came with the birth of my nephew. I asserted myself and asked if I could photograph his cesarean birth. Thankfully they said yes, and I witnessed the sacred event of my nephew being born. Capturing that sacred moment gave me a new purpose.

Question 4
Tell us about your business.
How does it work?
Partnering with my best friend, a doula-in-training, I began documenting births. The emotional intensity and beauty of these moments captivated me. As I improved, I recognized the need to balance my growing passion with the demands of family life, which led me to formalize my business, set boundaries, and charge appropriately for my time.

Question 5
What has been the hardest part of your journey so far?
Becoming a doula was a natural extension of my work. I wanted to empower families with knowledge about birth, the physiological process, and their rights in medical settings. Reflecting on my own births, I realized the transformative power of being an active participant. I strive to inspire clients to take ownership of their birthing experiences, equipping them to make informed decisions for themselves and their babies.

Question 6
What does healing the world look like to you?
Educating women about evidence-based practices versus hospital policies is deeply fulfilling. I share statistics and insights to help clients reclaim power in a highly medicalized process. When challenges arise, I guide them to pivot with confidence, showing them their innate strength and resilience.
Capturing the process of birth is one of my greatest joys. Whether it’s slow and steady or fast and intense, the moment a baby is placed on their mother’s chest is transcendent. My goal is for my clients to see the power I see: the laboring woman, the supportive partner, and the creation of a family. It’s awe-inspiring, and I feel privileged to document and support these life-changing events.
