Question 1

Tell us a little bit about you.
Where are you from?

Hi! My name is Marcella Toronto and I'm the founder of Flourish Maternity Concierge, a concierge and consulting service for high-achieving, expectant women looking to reclaim their time and energy for a less overwhelming and more enjoyable motherhood journey. I'm an international gal - my parents are from Utah, I was born in New York City, I grew up in Beijing, China, and now I'm married to a Peruvian and living in Lehi, Utah. Apart from the work I do as a maternity concierge, I love baking, salsa dancing, singing and playing with my kids, puttering in my garden, and going on long stroller walks.

Question 2

Why do you do what you do?
What motivates you?

I care about moms. I love seeing how fear, anxiety, and overwhelm can be transformed into confidence, excitement, and calm with just a little outside help. I think that pregnancy, birth, and motherhood are incredible and it's an honor to be part of other women’s journeys and see how they grow (both literally and figuratively) and come into their true potential. I find so much satisfaction in seeing my knowledge and expertise help another new or overwhelmed mother, because I've been there and I know how tough it can be.

Question 3

Where did your passion come from?

I’ve always been pretty obsessed with pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. It’s an innate part of who I am. When I got pregnant with my daughter while working full-time in the male-dominated, highly demanding wealth management industry, I started to realize just how underserved and under-supported working moms are. After my second pregnancy (still in the same industry) I knew I wanted to be part of the solution. There are so many amazing care providers out there (i.e. OBGYNs, midwives, doulas, therapists, chiropractors) I thought, “Who’s filling in the gaps? Who is helping with all the things your doula or OB can’t help you with - the logistics, organization, and coordination?” That’s how the idea for Flourish was born!

Question 4

What did you build in Soul Seed Academy?

What didn’t I build?! Soul Seed Academy helped me focus my vision while still dreaming big. It helped me figure out branding, logo, a website full of awesome content (check it out!), video content, and social media seed posts. And those are just the tangible things. SSA built my confidence, helped me gain momentum, and pushed me beyond what I thought I could achieve.

Question 5

Tell us about your business.
How does it work?

At Flourish Maternity Concierge we focus on logistics, planning, organization, consulting, and referrals. Much like a wedding planner, a maternity concierge serves as a skilled, unbiased resource for planning and coordination, but for your birth journey. From pregnancy through return to work, we can assist with anything non-medical related to the arrival of your new baby. This means everything from educating and consulting on the best baby gear for your lifestyle, to organizing key areas of your home, to assembling the perfect postpartum support network for your recovery. We offer pre-selected service experiences, but you can also curate your own experience to include whatever services you are most in need of. We typically start working with clients at the start of the second trimester, but it’s never too late! There are things we can do to help even after your baby is born.

Question 6

What has been the hardest part of your journey so far?

Believing I could do it. There are so many external and internal voices telling you that you can’t do it or that you’re crazy for trying something different. It takes a lot of strength and determination to overcome all those voices and to listen to your own saying that you can and you will!

Question 7

What does healing the world look like to you?

Healing the world looks like supporting and nourishing mothers from pregnancy, through birth and postpartum, into the fifth trimester (aka return to work) and beyond! It looks like making space for women to be able to confidently remain in the workplace if that’s what they want, while also being able to grow their family because they have comprehensive support in ALL areas of their life.
